Candidate Expression of Interest
Electorate of Grey - South Australia
Independent for Grey is excited to move into the candidate selection stage of our journey. We would love you to apply to be the candidate and potentially serve as our next federal member.
Over the past three months we have conducted a community listening process, gathering hundreds of responses through online community surveys and Kitchen Table Conversations, about what matters most to the people of Grey and what they expect from their political representative.
The highest priority issues identified were:
- Health and aged care
- Climate change, environment and energy transition
- Education and early childhood care
- Regional development and infrastructure
- Cost of living
We are now seeking a community independent candidate to run for the Commonwealth Electoral Division of Grey at the forthcoming federal election. We are looking for a person whose priority is representing the people of Grey, not the views of a political party.
Analysis of previous election results for Grey show a realistic path to victory for a community independent candidate who can attract broad support. This candidate will need to be able to reach a wide range of people across Grey and address the issues that matter most to our community.
Based on what we have heard from the community, we seek the following personal qualities in our candidate:
- Demonstrates integrity and transparency
- Honest and ethical
- Strong and effective communicator
- Exceptional listener
- Wise and approachable
- Demonstrated skills in collaborating and bringing people together
- Compassionate and empathetic
- Resilient
- Committed to evidence-based solutions
We also require a candidate to meet the following criteria:
- Currently lives in the federal electorate of Grey
- Have achieved career and life experience that would be of benefit in this role.
- Be an Australian citizen and not be disqualified by section 44 of the Constitution from sitting in Parliament
- Be able to fulfil the full-time role of a federal Member of Parliament, including regular travel to Canberra
Potential candidates are encouraged to make contact via a confidential expression of interest (EOI). To express interest, please send your EOI and an attached brief CV to: [email protected]
The EOI should address the above criteria and respond to the following questions:
- What is your connection to Grey?
- What experience have you had in advocating for communities?
- Why do you want to represent Grey?
- How will you go about representing Grey?
- What do you see as the big challenges and opportunities for Grey and the priority issues for our electorate in this election?
- What are your views on the importance of action on climate change?
Please add a CV (this can be relatively brief and no more than two pages)
EOI Closing Date: COB - 31/12/24
Shortlisted applicants will receive a follow up from the core team and may be invited to an interview. If you have any questions or want a chat, please reach out to us via; [email protected]. All enquiries and conversations will be treated with confidentiality.
