Long time local and Uni Hub Spencer Gulf CEO, Anita Kuss will be contesting the upcoming federal election as the Independent candidate for Grey.
The announcement took place Friday the 14th February at 12 noon in the Upper Spencer Gulf City of Port Pirie, with media and supporters in attendance.
Anita will take on the challenge of political candidate in a vast region that she knows well and has been a part of her whole life.
The electorate of Grey is the third largest in the country, covering 92% of South Australia, stretching from the Adelaide Plains, Clare Valley and Yorke Peninsula to the Upper Spencer Gulf, Eyre Peninsula and outback.
“The communities of Grey now have a real choice in who they vote for at the upcoming election.” said Jack Ritchie, spokesperson for Independent for Grey.
“Anita is from the region and for the region. She knows Grey inside out. From growing up on a small farm in Clare to helping the Upper Spencer Gulf cities to plan their economic future and bringing university education to Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, Copper Coast and Roxby Downs through Uni Hub, Anita has invested her life serving people and communities to make our region stronger and more resilient.”
“As an Independent, Anita offers something different. Someone who will listen, evaluate every issue, and speak up based on what is fair and what is good for our region. She will not be influenced by the demands of major parties.”
Ms Kuss says she is committed to putting community before party politics.
“I'm running as an Independent because I believe our communities need strong, independent leadership and representation in Parliament”, said Anita.
“There are fantastic opportunities for growth right across our region, but we have to get it right. For too long decisions about our future have been made by people who don’t live here. That needs to change.
We need to make sure government is working with the community to leverage the emerging opportunities.
I've spent my whole career standing up for our region and I've seen how our communities step up and get things done. I’m really excited about the possibility for this region to do politics differently, because decisions about our future should start with us.”
